The International Center
for the Solution of
Environmental Problems

"The whole of science is a
refinement of everyday thinking."
- Albert Einstein
The International Center for the Solution of Environmental
Problems is a nonprofit organization based in Houston, Texas. It is an affiliation
of scientists, engineers, ecologists, economists and other professionals from
all over the world, many of whom have been involved in environmental research
for over 35 years.
We investigate projects for a broad spectrum of clients
including governmental agencies, city planners, land and other resource
developers, engineering and architectural firms, community groups,
educational and research institutions, and petrochemical and other
industries. We conduct forensic studies for law firms, insurance companies,
and other organizations and provide expert testimony when necessary. We also
address problems of in-house interest for which we seek funding
independently.
The idea for ICSEP grew out of common concerns for creating a
more sustainable future shared by six attendees at the 1973 NATO Technology
Transfer Conference. Working together under the leadership of Joseph
L. Goldman, Ph.D., during the 1974 Tropical Meteorology Conference
in Nairobi, the group predicted the 1982 African drought and shared their
findings with African scientists and leaders. In 1975, Goldman formally
established ICSEP, leaving the Institute for Storm Research in Houston,
Texas, to become ICSEP's technical director.
ICSEP operates under a board of directors, with office and gardens
near downtown Houston and with a staff that includes the technical director
and support personnel. By drawing on the interdisciplinary expertise of our
affiliates and the institutional resources at their disposal, ICSEP is able
to provide the best problem-solving capabilities without depending
exclusively on in-house staff. ICSEP receives its funding from fees charged
for services and from tax-deductible contributions.
